C. E. McCullough Tells Kiwanis Club Land Con- nection Is Near. l from 11 BOYD ‘ HAVE YOU HEARD NEW YO! TY TALK Jie thrill of a Ilfeume you when you HEAR aits ; at EE TRANI ——— N Texas !omty Reception Monday. The Texas State Soclety will hold a reception and dance in commemoration of San Jacinto day and in honor of the Texas delegation to the D. A, R. Con- gress, and also new members of Con- gress from Texas, Monday evening, at 8:30 o'clock at Meridian Mansions, 2400 Sixteenth street. - Definite linking of rail and air trans- portation in the near future was fore- cast by Maj. C. E. McCullough, general passenger agent of the Pennsylvania Raliroad, speaking before a luncheon of the Kiwanis Club at the Hotel Wash- = ington yesterday. nmpomuon is unlikely to iICT supersede entirely the railroads, he de- clared, since it would be impossible to dispense with the latter in the trans- portation of heavy freight. The roads are consequently inclined to regard aviation as co-operative rather than competitive. Under the new system, landing fields will be established every 50 miles along the main route and a weather bureau will be organized. at headquarters to which railroad = em- ployes at all stations along the line will report weather conditions for the bene- fit of the pilots, As time is one of the most important factors in pmsperny today, Maj. McCullough declared, the effecting of a speedier means ‘of trans- portation would bind the Nation still closer together and would be a great contribution to prosperity. Upon the linking of rail and air transportation, it is believed that the length of time required to cross the continent could be reduced from four and one-half days to less than 48 hours. The planes will be designed to carry baggage in the wings, rather than in the rear, as is done in Europe at pres- ent, and the interior is thus expected to be more comfortable than any craft in use in Europe or America today.
