Senator Dale, Republican, of Ver- mont reintroduced the retirement bill for Government employes, which passed the Senate and House in the Seventieth Congress, but was given a pocket veto by former President Coolidge. Senator Brookhart, Republican, of Jowa reintroduced measures , affecting Federal workers, namely: The bill to correct inequalities in salaries under the Welch law and the measure to abolish the Personnel Classification Board and set_up a civil service board of '‘appeals. Cheirman Capper of the Senate Dis- trict committee reintroduced the bill to extend free text books to the senior high schools and to all classes in the Junior high schools. Free books are furnished at present in the grade school. Senator Smoot, Republican, of Utah egain presented his bill to provide a method of supervision for the propaqsed Archives Building, to be erected between Ninth and Tenth streets in the triangle south of Pennsylvania avenue. The building will house important records and documents of the Federal Govern. ment, . . DEMONSTRATION PLAY. “The Princess Learns to Swim,” a demonstration in play form arranged by the health department of the Y. W. C. A, will be staged tonight and to- morrow night at 8 o'clock in the asso- ciation’s swimming pool, Seventeenth and K streets. Rehearsals have been in progress for several ‘weeks under direction of Miss Louise Alberts. Lead roles will be plaved by Miss Elizabeth Roland and Miss Marjorie Mitchell. The play was written by American Red Cross workers with a view to dem- onstrating the importance of health education. COLUMBIA CLUBS' CONCERT. The third annual concert and dance of the Columbia Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar, and Hawallan Guitar and Uku- lele Clubs was presented last night at Barker Hall, Y. W. C, A, at Seventeenth and K streets northwest. The clubs, under the direction of . Sophocles T. Papas, well known in local musicsl cir cles, presented a varied. program, clu(: songs by Rosa Poilio-Jarm: con!
