EW YORK, April 19.—Henry L. jherty, one of the country’s wealthiest helors and nationally known as & public utility leader, has announced his marraige last New Year eve to Mrs. Percy Frank Eames, a Wwidow, who nursed him during a two s’ illness. Mr, Doherty, whose wealth is vari- ously estimated from $25,000,000 to $200,000,000, is 58 years old. His wife is 40. News of the wedding came as a surprise to his business associates, to m he often had said he would re- in a bachelor all his life. The announcement was made at the offics of Henry L. Doherty & Co., where it was said Mr. and Mrs.. Doherty were on a belated wedding trip to Atlantic City. The wedding took place at the home of Canon Lawrence E. Skey, rec- tor of St. Anne’s Anglican Church, at ‘Toronto. ‘The former Mrs, Eames is a native of Kentucky but spent the greater part of her adult life abroad, where she studied music under some of the mas- ters. Her husband, who died in Paris in 1920, was an official in the foreign service of the International Harvester Co. She has an 18-year-old daughter, who will receive her degree this Spring from the University of Madrid. Mr. Doherty, whose boast is that he never had a day’s schooling in his life, camr to New York from Columbus, Oh'%, and built up the billion-dollar Cities Service Co. and Henry L. Do- herty & Co., an oil producing and dis- tributing enterprise. The Dohertys have made no plans where they will reside and it is ex- pected they will travel extensively for a time. USURY IS CHARGED IN OIL FIRM CRASH Los Angeles Officers Attack New Angle Resulting From Julian Petroleum Financing. ; By the Assoclated Press. 10S ANGELES, April 19.—Armed with “John Doe” warrants, officers started out today to arrest 43 persons charged with usury in connection with the financial meneuvering which pre- ceded the Julian Petroleum Corporation collapse here two years ago. The City Council yesterday granted an appropriation of $20,000 for the prosecution of the case. The oil company failed after it had been learned that stock with a face value of more than $100.000,000 had been irregularly issued and sold to in- vestors. Several prominent Los Angeles citi- gens last year were charged with hav- ing loaned money at usurious rates to interested in the affairs of the corporation. No convictions resulted, however. MRS. OUIMET INJURED. ‘Wife of Noted Golfer in Auto Acci- dent at Arlington, Mass. ARLINGTON, Mass., April 19 (#).— Mrs. Francis Ouimet, wife of the noted golfer, was seriously injured here last night in an automobile accident. The car in which she was riding with Mrs. John Bolinger struck a trolley car. It was feared Mrs. Ouimet had suf- fered a fracture of the skull.
