S. Issues Steadier. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. Special Dispateh to The Star. NEW YORK, February 15.—The most is on the market for United States Gov- ernment issues, which were a trifle steadier today following the unusual break of the entire list yesterday. The Liberty 3's went off to a new low for the year and then rallied. Th are now 2 points under the h of Jal vary. The Treasury issues showed lit- tle change. All of them were steadier in tone, but, compared with the best prices for the year, they were down trom 115 to over 3 points. Except sentimentally, this does not result from any selling by the Federal Reserve, for the reason flut the bulk | of its holdings in Government issues are of a short-term character. In amount the latter are much reduced from the totals of a few months ago. The last statement of the Federal Re- serve Bank of New York showed less than $19,000,000 of such securities cn hand compared with $80,000,000 & year ago. The situation is perplexing to the Treasury officials in connection with | thelr heavy refunding operations a month from today. ‘There were numerous fractional de- clines in high-grade bonds today, mod- erate movements upward in the con- vertibles and a number of significant fluctuations in domestic and foreign is- sues. Market Street Railway of . San Francisco 7s broke a point to 89, com- ,gaud with their high of the year of 7%, and were lower than they have been at any time since they were issued five years ago at Knr Hudson Coal 5s went under 79, which represents a loss of nearly 20 points to those who ur- chased them in June, 1927, at the rice of 9813, No effort npp-rently l.s ing made to support this bond in IDM of the hcc that the related com- panies large amount of free capital deflved from the sale of rail- road properties at a substantial profit and which, it is understood, is being loaned in the call money market. Bulgarian 7158 were again urder 90, while Gity ot Warsaw 7, which broke 3 points yesterday to 80, against thexr issue price of 89, advanced 2 points. At the low figure their yield was around 9 Colombian issues have been nkespecmny those of the produced one of the totals ot lml and bond issues on record, with the ratio of stock to bond financing approximately 2 to 1. Dense fog early this morning made vehicular traffic dangerous and diffi- cult, resulting in delay on part of many retallers reaching the wholesale maf ket district. Soon after the sun appear ed, however. the clouds lifted and the traffic situation was relieved to the ex- tent of quickly mcreasing the number of buyers looking for first pick of foodstuffs. There was the usual increased de- mand for maritime products for the Friday dinner trade, and wholesalers at Municipal Fish Market reported fair- ly active trading. Dealers had large quantities of frozen fish to offer the trade and also fairly large quantities of fresh stock, much of the latter coms % | ing from Florida. Demand for Oysters. A fairly good demand for oysters, tered, and shrimp and clams also were in demand. Lobsters were scarce and high. Dealers had a few perch, catfish and carp from the Winter seines along the river below Alexandria. Increased demands for meats and poultry were reported by dealers this ing, supplies of some of the poul- try ers being almost as attractive as displays for the Christmas holiday trade. Fruits and vegetables continued in 1iberal supply and dealers also had at- tractive supplies of vegetables from various parts of the country. were reported cheap for this season.
