Petrovic) and Bemlmlno Glgll in joint song rccltul Diphtheria KiIIs 2-Year-01d. Special Dispatch to The Star. HERNDON, Va., January 10—Wil- llam Trenary, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Trenary, died last night of diphtheria. Four other cases are re- ported here. in Bach's “Concerto in A Minor,” the first movement may have seemed a bit stilted, but it gained a deep beauty in the sure bowing of the second move- ment an dexcellent, colorful reading in the finale. Mr. Salmond's righ-toned cello bow showed to special advantage in the ex- quisite “Berceuse” of Faure and be- came more vigorous in the “Melodie,” written by Frank Bridges and dedi- cated to Mr. Salmond. The other Faure work—*“Apres un Reve"—was charm- ingly done, too. The duet for strings, “Passacaglia,” by Handel, proved an unusual composi- MUSIC KOCHANSKI, SALMOND AND LUBO- SCHUTZ. STRICT PROPERTY LONDEMNATON UP finate Group to Consider Bill for Better Method An unusually delightful program of string and plano music was presented by three artists, under the auspices of Mrs. Lawrence Townsend, at the May- flower Hotel yesterday, as the “Thirty- second Musical Morning” in the series first cstablished by this patroness of | music several seasons ago. The usual distinguished audience, which included No Mail, Phone or C. O. D. Orders Accepted Tomorrow. The Senate District committee will meet tomorrow to consider proposed legislation to give the Federal Govern- ment a better method of condemning Jand needed for its various pmjccts‘ in the District. The committee at the same time is expected to act on bills giving the District Commissioners and Lieut. Col. U. S. Grant, 3d, direc- subject, but wants to inspect Gravelly necessary authority to_carry out plans | for the inauguration March 4. These officials need congressional sanction to erect platforms, string overhead wires and obtain the loan of flags and decor- ations from the War Department. The committee also may take up the question of an airport for Washingto provided the subcommittee, headed by Senator Vandenberg of Michigan, is ready to report. has gathered considerable data on the subject, but wants to inspect Gravelly Point and other sites suggested before reporting to the committee. Chairman Capper is expected to bring | the pending nomination of Col. rison Brand, jr. for another term on the Public Utilities Commission, to the attention of the committee tomorrow to determine upon a course of pre- cedure_in considering it. ‘The Federal condemnation bill passed the House at the last sssion and has been undergoing study by a Senate subcommittee headed by Senator Blaine, Republican of Wisconsin. The meas- ure is regarded as important at this time because of the Federal Govern- ment's building program and other projects requiring additional land. DR. JAGGER TO SPEAK. Will Describe Exploration of Vol- canic Area in Alaska. His ewperiences in exploring the little- known region near Pavior Volcano, Alaska, will be related by Dr. Thomas A. Jaggar at a meeting of the National Geographic Society in the Washington Auditorium tomorrow night. ‘Dr. Jag- gar's lecture will be illustrated with a large number of photographs and mo- tion picture films made by the photo- graphic division of the expedition. Side trips from the expedition's base were made in a strange amphibian craft, half boat and half automobile, which was designed especially for work on the untracked Alaskan beaches and tundra. ! Senator Vandenberg | Har- | | light the wives of past, present and future Presidents, and many others of promi- nence, showed marked appreciation of | the numbers given. | The artists were Paul Kochanski, | violinist; Felix Salmond, violencellis and Pierre Luboschutz, pianist. Both the Polish violinist and English cellist have been heard here, and their admir- able command of their art is well known in Washington. This was not M. Luboschutz’ debut here, but he sure- 1y has never been heard to such advan- lnge as yesterday. His accompaniments for the other two musicians in their solo selections were excellent, always keyed to the interpretation of the solo- . In Beethoven's “Trio in C Minor, pus 1, No. 3, however, he literally shone as an ensemble artist; his own talent kept sympathetic to the other vo, but given much fuller opportunity, naturally, in the Becthoven work. The | second movement_with its singing theme l and variations was particularly beau- tiful and the minuet was given a lovely reading. Again, at the very end, Haydn's gay “Gypsy Rondo” with its color and rhythms brought the three artists in a unified effort. Mr. Kochanski opened the program with 2 melody from Gluck’s “Orpheus,” arranged by Kreisler, and “Rondo” by Mozart. These are both charming, compositions and showed the | violinist to be in excellent form.
