PARIS, October . 25—Two French 'airmail pilots, named Serre and Reine, ;who were captured by wild tribesmen | three months ago, when they made a | forced landing in the wild Rio de Oro | region of Spanish Africa, were safe | today. The Spanish government announced thai the men were with the Spanish authorities at Villa de Cisneros, Rio de Oro, and were in good health. The airmen were forced down in the wild country as they were flying with mail for South Africa. They were seized by tribesmen, who demanded a ransam of 1,000,000 ~ pesetas (about $160,000). Other tribes, getting wind of the affair, rushed up_an@ fought over the two captives. While French and Spanish authorities negotiated for the release of the airmen, the pilots were dragged about from place ‘to place and suffered numerous privations. The negotiators faced a difficult tusk as ‘the tribesmen’s demands were grow- ing daily and it was impossible to do anything to deliver the airmen, be- cause it was feared that such a move might bring about their death. All obstacles were overcome by the commissioner, the French colonial ad- ministration and the airmail company. ‘The terms:of the release were not an- nounced.
