CLING TO THEE{T—EMPLES. Buddhists Balk Move to Abolish Ancient Houses of Worship. PEKING (#).—Buddhists have deter- | mined not to abandon their ancient temples without a struggle. Reports that the Kuomintang officials of the Peking district had decided to confiscate all Buddhist temples caused the Peking Buddhist Association to ad- dress an appeal to the Nanking govern- ment. The point is made that freedom of religion is one of the items of the Na- tionalist party, set forth by the execu- tive council. The Buddhists called at- tention to various welfare enterprises supported by them. Although they have never met in per- son, a family in Sheerness, England, has corresponded with _another in | Northern Ireland since 1858. (#).—In a room where for 35 years the apt finger of skilled surgeons had battled with the ills of the human body and where white-capped nurses flitted without sound, the blare of a jazz orchestra broke out and surgeons and nurses, in evening attire, danced until morning. The dance was in honor of the nurses’ training school class of '28 in the old Meriweather Hospital here and in celebration of the closing of the institution as a hospital. Al patients had been pronounced well and dis- charged. A few days after the dance moving vans carried away the surgical equip- ment. The building has been converted into a modern hotel.
