| THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. T. WEDYESDAY. SEPTEMBER 19. 1978° KIDNAPED BOY OENTITES CATORS Points Out Photos of Men He! Says Abducted Him. By the Associated Pre: { CHICAGO, September 19.—Billy Ran- feri, 10-year-old victim of kidnapers who H was released last night by his adbucto: after being held for 13 days, today! pointed out the pictures of two Italians s the m ho kidnaped him. A. Scalzitti, a relative, told reporters that the lad. now at home, had named as his abductors Julio Salusso and Jas- quale Larocco, picking the pictures of the two men out of a group of 75 photo- graphs brought from the bureau of identifi n for him to scan. The names of a doctor and a lawyer who attempted to act as emissaries for the kidnapers also have been furnished the police, Scalzitti said, and squads have gone out to arrest all four of the suspects. T’:@ lad, who is 10 years old, was unhurt except for the eye discoloration, caused, he said, by a blow from one of the kidnapers' fists. He told a connected story of imprisonment on a farm and had a pood word to say for the man and woman who were his Jatlers. Gives Details of Kidnaping. | “They hit me over the head in the eyve wpen they dragged me into their car,’ illy said, reciting the details | of the kidnaping September 5. “They, kept telling me to shut up, and when ! I hollered anyway they hit me.” “The men who kidnaped me were ' Italians,” he said. “The man and| woman to whose farm they took me ! were French. I couldn’t understand | what the farm people said, but I can understand Italian. The farmers trenl-i ed me all right. Once I got away, but | caught me. | ‘The two men came several times, to the farmhouse and talked with the man and women, but I could not hear | what they said. Always they would loc] me in the closet when the men came. The boy's release came after poli had announced that their investigatiol was drawing a close net about the ex: tortionists. Billy said the same two men who had kidnaped him as he was starting home from school two weeks ago turned him lose last night. They put him in | an automobile and drove for half an hour, he said. They stopped and one of the men gave him a $10 bill. “Walk straight ahead,” the man told him, “until you come to a street car | track. Get on the car and tell the con- | ductor you want to go to Chicago. When u get there you can telephone your ! ather.” No Money Paid for Release. Chicago police immediately went to Joliet, Deputy Commissioner Stege him- self taking charge of the questioning in an effort to learn where the boy was held prisoner. Billy's father, A. Ranieri, sewer contractor, also reached Joliet a few hours after the boy was found, but he was not permit- ted to see his son until the officers had finished their questioning. Ranieri senior said he had not paid *a single cent” to the kidnapers. He would not say whether he planned to push the search for the extortionists or #id police who are holding three men in connection with the kidnaping.
