BURGESS DIES IN GOTHAM HOSPITAL Former Central High Teacher Will Be Buried Tomor- row. Edward Sandford Burgess, formerly a member of the faculty at Central High School, died in the New York Hospital, New York City, Thursday. He was 73 years old. For the past 32 years Mr. Burgess had been professor of natural sclences at Hunter College, N. Y., and was acting president there from Janu- ary to May, 1908 - He taughn motany at Central 13 years, Born in Liitle Valley, N. Y., Mr. Bur- gess was the son of the late Rev.®Dr. Chalon Burgess. He was graduated from Hamilton College in 1879 and later studled at Johns Hopkins and Columbia Universities. Funeral services will be conducted at his home In Yonkers, N. Y., tomorrow. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Irene Hamil- ton Burgess, formerly of Fredonia, N. Y. Mr. Burgess was the author of articles on various botanical subjects and had made many contributions to the Cen- tury Dictionary. He was a member of the Century Club, the Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity and a former president of the Torrey Botanical Club, PERKINS RITES TODAY. Automobile Victim to Be Buried at Springfield, Md. Special Dispatch to The Star. SPRINGFIELD, Md., February 25.— Funeral services for Clay Perkins, 67 years old, of this place, who. was killed in an automobile accident late Thurs- day afternoon on the Robert Crain Highway between Hall's Station and Leeland, about 6 miles above Upper Marlboro, will be held at Perkins M. E. Chapel here tomorrow at 2 pm. Burfal will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Perkins was killed when an auto- mobile driven by Willard F. Boteler of Branchville got out of control and turned over. Mr. Boteler told Justice of the Peace H. W. Gore here that the steering wheel failed to function. He was released under $500 bond for his appearance before the grand jury at the April term of the Circuit Court for Prince Georges County. Mrs. Fanny B. Boteler, his wife, also a passenger in the car, is in a Baltimore hospital with a broken arm and other hurts. Mr. Perkins, besides his brother, Ed- ward E.
