By the Associated Press, BVANSVILLE, Ind., Sep‘amber Injuries sustained by at least 56 per- gons who were passengers aboard a $pecial Dade Park race track inter- rban which crashed through an open vach into a line of heavily loaded reight cars last night were being ehecked by railroad officials eatly to- day. Three persons were killed in the wreck and at least five more wére #h a critical condition. The full extent of the casualties was undetermined because of the speed with which the injured persons were treated at the Walker Hospital, where all avallable doctors of the city were ealled to administer first aid. No charts were made on the victims. Witnesses Blame Light Expert. Coroner Max Lowe, likewise was pushing an investigation of the wreck. Otto Lloyd, a block-light expert, who had worked on the switch shortly be- fore the accident, admitted to several ssengers in the car that he had led to properly throw the switch, according to depositions in the hands of the coroner. The car was traveling at 40 miles an hour when it swerved from the main line into the switch and crashed head-on into the box cars. Those seated near the front of the car were the most seriously injured. The motor- man was killed instantly and two other persons were fatally hurt. Not a seat in the wrecked car re- mained In position. Asserting that the Pullman com- pany benefited to the extent of 160,000,000 & yeéar from tips given :o its porters, the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters yesterday asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to issue orders to cor- rect the abuses it claimed have existed in Pullman travel.
