Long after the invitation list was-closed-dozens of requests poured into the White House and cards were almost at a premium. That diplomatic reception, the New Year day reception and the New Year brcakfast given in the Pan-American Union by the Secretary of State and Mrs. Keliogg are the only three svents in a year when the diplomatic corps entire comes together. Cer- tain official men and women are always eligible to the blue room at-these receptions_and Thursday night among the conspicuous figures, besides the‘glice President and Mrs. Dawes and the cabinet members and their wives, were the Chief Justice .and Mrs. Taft, Associate, Justices of the Supreme Court, the Speaker of the House and Mrs. Longworth, and the foreign -affairs and foreign relations committee of Senate and House. ‘There also were several of the new Senators and their wives in the blue room, while others immediately went to the big east.room where .in El'mlpl were congregated many members of both the upper and lower ouse with their eyes wide open for po.itical tips. Marriage Announced At Evening Reception Dr. and Mrs. Willlam Gerry Mor- gan entertained a large number of friends at a buffet supper party last night to announce the marriage of their daughter Ruth to Lieut. Comdr. Osborne Bennett Hardison, U. 8. N., who were married at Annapolis, Md., November 28. Mrs. Andrew Kanaga of Fort Brags, N. C., sister of Comdr. Hardison, and their brother, Mr. Joseph H. Hardison of Raleigh, came on for the reception. Dr. and Mrs. Morgan received the guests with Comdr. and Mrs. Hardl- son and Mrs. Kanaga also assisted. The bride was in a charming evening gown of white georgette and black lace with brilllant trimming. Morgan wore a handsome gown o black velvet and Mrs. Kanaga was in a gown of cream color lace, the de- sign carried out in beads of pastel color, and Miss Gerry Morgan wore a gown of white crepe embroldered in pastel color beads. 5 The drawing rooms were lovely in a profuse decoration of yellow Chrys- anthemums and pink flowers were used in the dining room.
