Due to increased receipts of native and nearby eggs and a slackening in demand on account of high prices the egg market slumped badly this week, values dropping 10 cents a doz en from opening prices Monday. The market closed easy today at 46 cents a dozen for firsts in free cases, but with offerings that do not show qual- ity it is not a question of price, but of a buyer, the trade preferring Western refrigerator eggs to So- -alled native and nearby fresh. Prompt shipments and careful grading are necessary to command top prices While the general live poultry market rules fairly steady, turkeys, due to liberal receipts the past week and lonly limited demand, are easy and values show a decline, young turkeys today being quoted at 40 cents a pound against 45 the first part of the week Old turkeys will not bring over 35 to 38, while poor and crooked breasts are slow sale at 25. Large fat Spring chickens and fat brojlers are more active, the demand being good at 23 to 26, but Leghorns will not bring over 21 to 23, while poor and thin stock is neglected 18 to 20. Fat old hens 31 pounds and dver also in good demand at 22 to 26, but lighter fow! and Leghorns will not bring over 18 to 20, while old roosters are plenti ful at 16 and 17. Market for ducks and steady under ample receipts sale for choice fat birds at for the former and 23 t latter, but small poor stock is not wanted at 18 to 20. Guinea fowl and pigeons are in light receipt, and meet with ready sale at 50 to 75 each for the former and 30 to 35 a pair for the latter. Choice to fancy dressed turkeys are the only poultry that will bring a premium of more than a cent a pound dressed over live stock. Choice turkeys are selling 43 to 4 fair to good 40 to 42, but old toms and poor birds will not bring any more dressed than live. With a fairly good demand prevailing under lighter receipts all this week, rabbits have ruled very firm, with choice, fresh killed stock bringing 5.00 and' 6.00 a dozen, and fair to good, 3.00a3.60, but stock arriving in poor condition is slow sale and of uncertain value, being more a question of finding a buyer than price. Produce Market. The white potato market continues steady and shows little change from Jast week under a fairly active de- man, but. centered on well graded No. 1 stock 3.00a3.25 per 100 pounds, while No. and ungraded potatoes are sale at about half price. Eastern Shore McCormicks and red potatoes sell about 50 cents under top value: Market for sweets and yams rules easy, and outside prices are ob- tainable only on good dry stock, as dirty, as well as heated or mixec stock is_slow sale and of uncertain value. No. 1 sweets bring 1.50a2.25 barrel, and yams 1.25a2.00, bushel hampers of both sell mostly 40a1.00, as to quality and condition. Demand for native and nearby vegetables only fair, with prices mostly in buyer's favor, and it takes choice stock to bring outside prices at the following quotations: Beets, 100, 3.00a5.00; brocali and kale, bushel, 40a50; carrots, 100, 4.00a6.00; onions, 100 pounds, 1.75a2.75; oysterplants, 100, 5.00a7.00; parsnips, basket, 50a60; Savoy cabbage, bushel, 50a75; spinach. bushel, 75a1.00; turnips, basket, 35a40 for washed and 25a30 for unwashed stock. 11 (Spe- today— . 2 do- | ! t geose is with fair 23 to 26 or the Live Stock Quotations.
