NEW YORK, Decembar 11.--Trade operations in the market, for this season of the yvear are sxceeding expactations of some manufacturer: The movement against contracts kep | up well, with one of the features he continuation of new business on the | part of jobbers and consumers who | were thought to have about filled their neads. Buying by many raflrea track accessories was above the aver- age, while the car inquiries were im- pressive. Prices in all directions were steady. The pig iron demand was limited to small lots, with prices steady. The recent decline to the 1315 cent lavel for copper delivered at Conneetf cut Valley points, brought in an active demand. Consumers who had been holding off for several weeks owing partiy to unsettied conditions abroad, entered the market to cover accumu lated needs and sales were reported aggregating in the neighborhood of 70 million pounds, according to current estimates, domestic demands then tapered off somewhat hut a_beter ex- port business has developed and the market was steady at the end of the week with producers holding at 13% for electrolytic delivered. Domestic consumers are helieved to have con siderable copper still to buy for the first quarter. Tin was nervous. Small reactions brought in some good huying, but the bulk of consumers were thought to have covered their immediate needs. The demand for lead was considered disappointing in some quarters in view of the lower price level. London advanced but the movement was tgnored here. Zinc was quiet and steady. A feat- ure was the fact that many con- sumers hawve hooked but small quan- tities for the first quarter of the year. Antimony was quiet and the tone easy as a result of the indisposition of the average consumer or jobher to bid for either future shipment from the Far East or nearby arrtvals. STOCK IS INCREASED. YORK, December 11.—The cotten market was quiet, but gen- erally steady today, January con- tracts selling up to 11.87, ar 9 points net higher and closing at 11.83. The general market cloged steady at net advances of 4 to 7 points. The opsning was steady at an ad- vance of 2 to 7 peints in response to relatively steady Liverpool cables A little Southern selling and realiz- ing were soon absorhed by trade buying and covering. Rrokers with domestic mill conneetions were mod- erate huyers of the Spring and Sum- mer months, and appearance of this demand, combined with the absence of any important selling pressure from. the South, ne doubt increased a disposition to cover short con- tracts for over the week end. The huying was by no means ac- tive, but offerings were light and prices reached the highest levels of the day in late trading, when De- cgmber sold_at 1220, and May at 12.34, about 7 to 8 points net higher.
