B. O.'s twelve speclals for the * new 1926-27 program will be some- | thing of an innovation in motion pic ure production, according to J. Schnitzer, vice president. F, B. O, t may be added for the sake of clar ity, means Eilm Booking Offices “The day of producing ‘just a pic ture’ is over,"” says Mr. Schnitzer. “It sounds like a paradox, but it is never- | ‘heless true that mere merit is not nough. To produce and market ple- ‘ures in these days of fast competl- fon a production must have more to recommend it than it is simply enter- taining, or a good story. “What the show game needs today is what, for want of a better word, I might call “Idea” pictures. And all of F. B. O.'s specials for the coming vear will be geared to that poliey. They will all have a central, exploit- uble idea behind them. In fact idea will be our main promise, befor we consider plot, characterization or eny of the other elements that go to make up the finished product.” Mr. Schnitzer believes that every production turned out should have what he calls a “handle”—some angle by which the exhibitor can take hold of the product and interest his public.
