Approximately 315,000 claims for preference in appointment to posi- tions in the classified civil service have been allowed by the United States Civil Service Commission un- der the veteran preference acts of March 3 and July 11, 1919. Rural Carrier Appointments. During the year ended June 30, 1924, 1,929 appointments were made through examination to positions of rural carrier.
