Immediately upon doing this a hurry call was sent to architects, builders, contractors, etc., for consultations on the improvements, and finally tull plans and details were completed for the extensive alterations combining the additional store space with our present quarters. Everything was progressing nicely until, without any notice, the builders demanded the entire building that they might start work at once. It was a disastrous blow, as we were wholly unprepared and our stocks were very heavy with Summer and Fall goods. But after many conferences we finally compromised with the builders and they have allowed us one week to clear the store of all goods and dispose of our stocks before the dust, dirt and mortar ruin them.
