42 AIR MAIL POPULAR INBUSINESS WORLD P.:M. General to Continue New York-San Francisco Schedule Indefinitely. Performance of the New York-San Francisco air mail service and the quan- tity of mail offered for transmission have been so highly satisfactory Postmaster General New has decided to continue operation on the present sched- ule indefinitely. The original order es- tablishing the service called for only a month's operation. The record of the airmall pllots dur. ing the trial shows they have been on schedule time in about 93 per cent of the total east and west bound trips. On three trips eastbound the pilots had to lay over at Bellefonte. Pa., for the night because the airway from there into New York was not lighted, and on two trips they had to stop overnight before reaching San Francisco for thc same reason. Orders have been given to light these stretches of the airway. Demand for establishment of air mall service to other cities has come Lo postal au- thorities in considerable volume. but | they are unable to do anything with- | out specific authorization of Congress. 1t is considered likely that the December s n of Congre will be intr. d_providing ex- tension of t rvice to other cities.
