LONDON, May 23.—Wheiever there is a question of commcrefal co-oper: tion not involving political particip tion the United States will do her share r share, Willis H. Booth of New York, president of the International Cham- er of Commerce, declared yesterday in a luncheon address before the American Chamber of Commerce, of which he was the guest. Mr. Booth told the English and other foreign guests that ho was particulurly proud of America’s atti- tude toward the experts' reports. The trouble with Americans, he continued, was that they insisted on thinking ,politically about problems which were fundamentally economic. This was causing most of President Coolidge's dificulties and largely ex- plained the “isolationist” philosophy, he added, mentioning the soldiers’ bonus and Mellon tax reduction is- sues among the problems he has referred to. Mr. Booth asserted that America could be politically independent, but not commerciully independent. The more gold loaned abroad the better it would be for America's economic position, which at present was not encouraging, he said. He expressed the hope that ster- ling would be restored to a gold par- ity at the earliest moment possible and urged the most intense Anglo- American co-operation in the settle- rwn( of the world's economic prob- ems. Francis E. Powell, president of the American Chamber of Commerce of London, congratulated Mr. Booth on his successful year as president of the International Chamber. Consul General Skinner of the United States, the Italian commercial tache and the chancellor of the Egyptian le- gation were among these at -the luncheon.
