LAWS. HEART ATTACK FATAL TO JAMES L. LAWS Secretary to Three Superintendents of Police Succumbs After Attending Circus. James L. Laws, thirty-two years old, secretary to Maj. Daniel Sullivan, superintendent of police, died sud- denly at his residence, 1454 Euclid street, early today. Death is said to have been dug to heart disease. Mr. Laws had retarned from the circus, which he had attended with his wife and young daughter, just a few hours before his death. Ne had worked in his office in_the District building vesterday. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Mr. Laws was born in this city. He was the son of the late John Shad- wick Laws and Mrs. Anna L. Laws. His mother is still living. After spending his early life in this city, he moved to Virginia, where he received his early education and remained there for several years. John Gleason, ninety-five years old, a veteran of the Union army in the civil war and a resident of this city for more than sixty vears, died at his residence, 1106 North Capitol street, Friday. Funeral services were conducted at his residence Mond: morning and thence to St. Aloysius Catholic Church where mass was said. Interment was in Mount Olivet ceme- ery. *“Mr. Gleason was born in Ireland and eame to this country when he was twenty years old. He made the trip across the Atlantic in a sailing vessel, which is said to have taken nearly three months to make the trip. Until retiring from active work, on account of il} health, about fifieen years ago, he was a well known curb setter. His work consisted of setting in place the old fashioned curb stones, He did much of that work in the vicinity of the Soldiers’ Home.
