The Ku Klux Klan 1ssue 1n connec- tion with the Democratic presidential nomination was brought further into the open by the national organization in charge of the candidacy of Senator Underwood. In a statement issued from its head- quarters here, captioned “An issue that cannot be evaded,” the Under- wood organization declared, “the Klan is packing delegations to pro- tect its interests” at the New York convention; that in Indiana the Klan mobilized in: the Republican pri- maries and has a complete state ticket in the fleld; that in the recent Iilinots primaries the Klan issued instructions to klansmen as to how to vote, and instances the recent state convention in Georgia, which ousted Clark Howell as national committeeman and elected in his place John 8. Cohen. Order From Forrest. In connection with the Georgia situation the Underwood committee's statement quotes what purports to be the text of a Klan order, signed by Nathan Bedford E. Forrest, grand dragon, realm of Georgia, saying “It is the earnest desire of McAdoo that his friends elect Maj. John S, Cohen as national committeeman” and “in every sense he is acceptable to us, and we are assured that if he goes to New York the Klan's interests will be_ably protected.” The ‘text of the statement issued by the Underwood committee follows: “As evidence that the voice of the Klan will be heard in the New York convention is the fact that where- ever possible the Klan is packing delegations to protect its interests there. The Georgia delegation will be a militant Klan organization. The following order issued to Klan mem- bers of the Georgia state convention, controlled by the Klan, makes this clear. Such caucus will take place at the convention as provided in the program. “ ‘It is the earnest desire of McAdoo that his friends elect Maj. Cohen as national committeeman. Maj. Cohen is a high class Christian gentleman, a member of the North Avenue Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and in every sense is acceptable fo us and we are assured that if he goes to New York the Klan's interest will be ably protected. “‘Therefore, before electing & man for district delegate the kiansman voting should assure himself as to the stand such delegate will take with reference to Maj. Cohen and_conse- quently the interest.of the Klan. “‘Those who for financial reasons would be unable to attend should have their expenses paid by the local Klan, This is a time when every one must do his bit and the Klan That V-shaped crevice is THE DANGER LINE As sHOWN in the cross-section of a tooth in Fig. 1, your gums form a V-shaped crevice where they meet the teeth. The gums become ‘irritated and slowly recede, as shown in Fig. 2. Pyorrhea, bleeding guims, abscesses and loss of teeth often result.
