EX-SOLDIER WINS CASE. Defends in Richmond Court Charge of Transporting Liquor. Special Dispatch to The Star. RICHMOND, Va., May A former ‘world war soldier won his own case in the courts here when harged with transporting liquor. He had removed liquor from a machine to his room, he admitted, but showed credentials that he had been a soldier, and a good one. He had been gassed seriously as to induce tuberculosis, and he was ing the liquor in taking raw eggs. The prosecuting attorney, himself an over- seas man, declared he could not direct the ju not to acquit, but t man was acquitted it would not be wrong, and the jury formally retired and brought in a verdict of acquittal. The soldier thanked the jury and the court and made his way to his home. Protest Appearance of Modernists. NEW YORK, May 14.—A resolution protesting against the appearance of Dr. Sherwood Eddy and vr. Fred P. Smith, modernist preachers, ‘at the Milwaukee convention, May 28, has been adopted by the Baptist Bible Union of New York, it became known yesterday. The organization voted to change its name from the Baptist Fundamentalist League to its present designation. Dr. John Roach Stratton is president of the union. “The Busy Corner” 26-Pc.
