The “|average man does not see the difference. He treats the high-speed, bearings as he does the spring shackle cups. Two .|of the most: neglected ' grease cups on |any car are the clutch ‘collar and uni- versal joint cups. This is so largely because they are under the footboards. To turn down a grease cup does not mean to-turn it as far as:possible and force every bit of grease in the cup.into the bearing at once. It means to turn ,|it. down sufficiently to cover the bearing Burface with grease. This can usually be done in a turn or a turn and a half of. the cup. - When filling cups it is usually well to turn the cup down as far as it will go, then, remove it and fill Phone N. 4053 F. M. TO CONDUCT SUMMER 'AUTO COURSE, Boys Will Be Trained Along Me- chanical Lines, Including | Making of Bepairs. The [Washington Young Men's Chris tian Associdtion has arranged to con duct a summer automobile course for boys. The course began July 5. The o ve is to train the boy along {mechanical lines and to enable him | to take care of his own-or dad's car, and locate trouble which may occuf and make repairs which may becoms Recessary on the road. - % The bovs will be taught the care {and repair of tires and tubes; the use of foregather and ufidergather: how {to locate lost play in the steering mechanism: how to make adjust- ments; how to test the wheels for iproper alignment; to lubricate and ble if the cup is filled level full before it is screwed on. A wise :man once said “More things than gasoline go into the gas tank.” Among them are water, sand, hair, and much other material which assist to plug up pipe lines whenever they get a chance. Two or three times in each sea- son the fuel system should be thoroughly cleaned. This is no hard matter, the hard thing is to make up one’s mind to do it First drain the fuel tank, preferably through a big plug or by unscrewing the ediment trap completely. 1f possible to stir up the contents of the tank with a clean stick it should be done. Blow through the fuel pipe into the carbure- tor and if it does not take much “wind” to do this it can be teft at that. The float chamber should be-drained and rinsed out. while the vacuum tank, if there is one, should come in for simjlar attention. Any car on the road today usually gives remarkably good service for the care it gets. These little attentions are due every car and if they are not given we can blame only ourselves if we are held up by fuel trouble far from town on perhaps a dark, rainy night. » the completely equipped-and newly improved Ford Coupe the busiest car on our thoroughfares today.
