She is entertaining two house guests, Mrs. John Zollars and Miss Capital Society Revels at Various Summer Resorts Seashore, Mountain and Country Places Each Claim Their Quota, Lured by Tennis, Golf, Polo and Like Sports. Washirigton society — diplomatle, resident and official—long sought the North Shore as a summer playground, Manchester, Gloucester, Nahant, Bev- erly and other points claiming their quoto, but the world war brought a change, and this season for the first time in years that section is claim- ing its own. Narragansett Pler, with a revival of tennis and golfing and the Point Judith polo tournament in view, is also gaining its share of attention, while Bar Harbor, with its tennis week and other ‘attractions, and White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., with its constant lure of outdoor life on the mountains, are each fast claiming their share of Washington folk who take July and August as a play time. Mrs. George Cabot Lodge, who was abroad last season with her family, has . arrived from Washington with her daughter, Miss Helena, and they are occupying <Lodge Villa on CLff street, Nahant. The villa, once the home of Senator Henry Cabot Lodge’s grandfather, is am old-time house with an expanse of veranda around it both on the lower and upper floors. Seemingly gray with age, the house modestly stands in Nahant's choicest region beneath many trees and screened -from the roadway by Its sightly -hedges. Down the hill slop back of the house is the old garden, still a joy to garden lovers with it beds of old-fashioned flowers. Mr. Ector O.-Munn, who will eoon sail for Europe, spent the week end with his mother, Mrs. C. A. Munn of Washington, at Manchester. Charles M. Amory, & son-in-law, also spent a- few days at the MunM residence re- cently, where: Mrs. Amory and chil- dren are spending the summer. Mr. and Mrs. George von L. Sutherland are spending the summer in Nahant, where they are registered for the sea- son at the Edgehill. ‘The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., has long been a fa- vorite midsummer haunt of Wash- ingtonians, and because of its fa- mous baths and thermal establish- ments gained renewed popularity during the war, visitors finding rthe elevation productive of cool nights, while the days are never too warm for horseback riding over the many beautiful mountain trails, golf, ten- nis and an all-round outdoor life in an environment of great natural beauty. This has been so enhanced by architects and landscape gardeners during the last few years that the sojourner may now enjoy the de- lights of a splendidly cultivated e tate of 7,000 acres set down in the midst of one of the most beautiful mountain sections of America. ‘Washingtonians are prominent in the large cottage colony which sur- rounds the Greenbrier, and cottages have been taken for the season by Judge and Mrs. Milton Elliott and their family, Mrs. James R. Branch, Mrs. Richard H. Wilmer and Mrs. K. B. Cooke of Washington. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Chatard of Washington are among well known visitors who have returned to Green- brier for the season. Miss Laura K. Plunkett returned to Washington last week after a short stay at White Sulphur. ‘With a revival of tennis and golf- ing and the coming junior polo cham- plonship. matches in the Point Judith tourney, Narragansett Pier, R. I, is looking forward to a season of sports | in the open, and it is certain that there will be considerable ‘entertain- ing by members of the villa colony ‘when the polo stars arrive here from England and other parts of this coun- try for the championship events. An official invitation has been extended to the English polo team, which is ex- pected here under the captaincy of Lord Rocksavage, who is well known at Newport and Narragansett, as he has played in previous tournaments. On Long Island the Army polo team is now engaged In practice, prepar- ing for the Point Judith tournamen and among the prospective members of this team are Gen. H. K.
