MARKET IS SWAYED BY WORLD ISSUES International Events Influ- ence Transactions to Un- i ‘wonted Degree. NEW YORK, November 19.—Inter- national considerations influenced the financial markets this week to an un- wonted degree. All other events were eclipsed by the deliberations of the armament conference, whose proceed- ings were strengthened by the ap- proval which greeted the proposals of the United States government. Professional traders perpetrated a =cries of bear raids against most of the erstwhile war favorites, but these maneuvers were abandoned when it hecame evident that a world-wide peace program would revive activity in many essentlal branches of indus- wy. View of Conservatives. Conservative opinion in Wall street inclines to the belief that much time will be spent and many modifications may be made in the present plans ol the conference. It also believes that irresistible forces are working for the betterment of world conditions. Dealings in stocks were extensive, although a very large proportion of the trading encompassed oils, indus- trials and specialties in which pools or cliques had a dominant interest. Coalers were the only group among rails to manifest more than moderate activity and strength, this improve- ment coinciding with the sale of the Jersey Central’s coal lands and re- sumption of dividends by Chesapeake 1 Ohio and Hocking Valley. athy of railroad shares was almost fully balanced by a steady inquiry tor ‘honds of that description. Proof that the investment situation rests upon a firm foundation was furnished by the success which attended many new offerings, notably the New York Telephone $50,000,000 bond issue. Greater Ease in Money Market. Indication that the money market 1s developing greater ease, especially for commercial accommodations, were noted during the week. On the other hand, it was intimated that even un- der the most favorable conditions oc- casional flurries are likely to attend the heavy requirements of the final month of the year. British bills were the only form of foreign exchange to derive substan- tial benefit from the trend of affairs at Washington. Sterling advanced to a fraction over 4.00, its maximum quotation for six months. The Ger- man rate reacted almost to its.low record of recent weeks, but that cir- cumstance was offset by assurances that Germany's next indemnity pay- ment will be met on demand. LIVE STOCK MARKETS.
