The Senate. BY WILLIAM J. WHRATLEY. Several matters of importance to the District are expected to re- ceive consideration in committes and on the floor of the Senate dur- ing the current week. ‘The Senate District committee will resume its hearings on pro- posals for limited suffrage in the District of Columbia. The hear- ings will begin at 2 o'clock tomor- Tow afternoon. Pressure will be brought on the Senate for consideration of the bill restoring the half-and-half plan for appropriating for the Dis- trict of Columbia. The bill now on the calendar was passed over on the last calendar du. but Sena- tor Jones of Waghington served noticed that he hoped to get nullon when the matter was reached o the next reading.of the ulendlr. He expressed the bellef that the measure could be passed without much delay. Senator Jones sald that should it be necessary he will move to take it up, notwithstand- ing objectlons. The nomination of Henry Lin- coln Johnson for recorder of deeds of the District now is before the Senate, it havirig been reported tavorably by the Senate District committee during the week. It is expected that it will be taken up for consideration this week and that there will be some debate fol- lowing expected opposition from Senatof Watson of Georgia. The local school problem prob- ably will be taken up this week, when the joint congressional com- mittee expected to pursue fur- ther its investigation of the local syste: 84 measure is expected to give way to the Ford-Newberry senatorial election contest in Michigan. Agreement has been reached be- tween republican and democratic leaders to take up this matter ;nrly in the week, probably Tues- ay. If this contest is taken up, it is probable that other matters will be laid aside until it is finished with, as there undoubtedly will be three or four days of debate, dur- ing which Senator, Newberry, it is understood, will speak in his own defense. The reason for taking up this contest over the railroad bill, it is understood, is to meet the convenience of ssnators planning to leave Washington near the end :lf’:ha present extraordinary ses- ‘The fate of the anti-beer bill will be known before the end of the week, the Senate having agreed to take a vote on this important measure Friday at 3 o'clock. The bill is regarded as sure of passage, probably by a two-thirds majority. HELD ON LIQUOR CHARGE. W. H. Sees Foot Ball Game With Princeton. By the Assoctated Press. NEW HAVEN, Conn., November 12.— The name of Ferdinand Foch, marshal of France, was inacribed today with the song of Yale upon the roll which bears the names of George Washington, father of our country, and Gen. La- fayette, soldier and statesman, and Gen. de Rochambeau, who was 2180 & marshal of France. Foch received the honorary degree of doctor of laws at 2 lpeelnl convocation of the Fellows University, and later, as the ul-dny guest of thu university, he saw other sons of the same alma mater battle to victory it Princeton. The stay of the marshal here was a continual ova- tio Thrice he was driven over the pre-arranged routes with a calvary escort and he was acclaimed by the tens of thousands who lined the streets, and tonight he stayed at the home of Col Hiram Bingham. Delighted With Game. ‘Those whe were with Marshal Foch at the foot ball game saw that he watched the players intently, occasion- ally using his fleld glasses. 'ter the game he was asked his impression of the !pflr! and he said: Nt was interesting and exciting, every moment of it. The formations of the teams as they went through with their plays made a keen study which required much quick thinking. I have seen foot ball in france, but never before such an exciting contest as the one today.
