THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON. D.C. FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1891. THREW A TEACUP And Uad to Pay Five Dollars in the Police Court for So Doing. ‘There was lively scene in the dining room of the Spanish legation yesterday afternoon when several of the female servants were at dinner, Louisa Bonnet and Lizzie Paul being the ones who figured in the affair. Yesterday was Louisa’s last day at the lega- tion and Lizzie spoke to her in a manner well caleulated to excite and tantalize her, and in her undertaking she succeeded admirably. Louisa became greatly excited and hot words passed between them until a teacup went through the sir with considerable force. Louisa threw the cup and it landed against Lizzie’s eye, inflicting a painful wound. Johanna Fleck, a young girl who went to work in the house yesterday, witnessed the ffair and she became frightened and left when she saw the cup thrown. Lizzie procured a magistrate’s warrant for Lonisa and she was arrested and held at the fourth police station last evening. This morn- ing she was taken to the Police Court, where Lawyer Sillers defended her. He claimed that she was exempt irom arrest and prosecution on account of her employment, but inquiry de- veloped the fact that she was not shielded by her diplomatic relations The little woman was then tried and she ad- mitted that she threw the cup, but claimed that it was in self-defense. Judge Miller thougat she had no right to throw the cup and fined her #5. Lawyer Sillers asked that the court # sentence, saying that the woman only Dut the judge said that he had made the pen- alty light and she would have to pay it. ens GEORGETOWN.
