"intra los sitios interesantes en Mérida, se encuentran: San Javier del Valle Grande, sitio de retiro, y la casa de ejercicios espiri- tuales, construida por los-padres jesuitas a 10 kilémetros de la ciudad, en el valle del Mucu- jun. Es una construccién de estilo’ colonial. El altar y la ornamentacién de la capilla fue- ron tallados a mano en madera de caoba. En el patio abierto de la casa cae una hermosa cascada y desde los corredores se contempla el pico Bolivar cubierto de nieves. El Mercado Principal donde puede obte- nerse objetos tipicos de la regién. La Casa del Turista donde se venden foto- grafias de los sitios interesantes del Estado y. también artefactos indigenas. En esta casa se organizan excursiones a la Sierra Nevada y otras regiones. Los Chorros de Milla y el Parque Zoo- légico. ‘ Tabay, pintoresca poblatién, a 15 minu- tos. Muy cerca, en la Mucuy, funciona la Es- tacién Experimental de 1a Escuela de Inge- nieria Forestal de la Universidad de Los Andes. El Estado tiene numero- $as lagunas ubicadas en una altura que oscila entre los 3,000 y 4,000 métros sobre el nivel del mar, donde se per- mite la pesca de truchas en ciertas épocas del afio. Algu- nas de estas lagunas pueden visitarse en automdvil y otras combinando vehiculos con mu- las 0 en parte a pie. Laguna Negra, Laguna Verde, La- guna de Los Patos, la de Los Montés, la de Los Guaches y la de Mucubaji y muchas otras de la regién, tienen una na- turaleza que invitan a la me- ditacién y al reposo.
