With sales of new motor cars running upward at a record-break- ing rate throughout the country, the American Automobile associa- tion will ask all experienced driv- ers to set a good example to the newcomer at this time when it ap- pears that traffic safety is the most important motor necessity, it was announced in a bulletin just issued fram A. A, A. headquarters at Washington, Ernest N. Smith, general man- ager of the A, A. A. declares that there was never a better opportu- nity to put every experienced driv- er’s complaint against recklessness to the acid test. He points out that the new driver is naturally imita- tive and that if the people who have had experience with driving will set a decent example considerable prog- ress will be made in the work of safeguarding the highways. This 1s in ne with the A. A. A’s. policy of solving the safety problem by natural means. “The average driver is always often leacing the newcomer into be- ing his own stumbling block,” Smith says. “Unless the seasoned drivers take particular care to see that they do the right thing at the right time the unskilled driver will not know when he {s taking chances. “Every newcomer at the wheel of ‘SUOUT MODEL NAME CHANGED Rickenbacker Car to Be Known as’ “Sport Roadster.” BY CAPT. E. V. RICKENBACKER “Sport Roadster” is the name of the ‘new two-passenger speed model Rickenbacker Six. No, it will not be known as the “Scout” despite our recent announce- ment of the selection of that name from among ten thousand suggest- ed in the recent contest. We sent a check for $100 as promised to Mr. J. H. Tolle of Deming, New Mexico who first selected “Scout” as the most fitting appelation for this snappy looking rnodel—and then found two good reasons why we could not use it. First—the desig: nation “Scout” pertaining to any commodity for sale is reserved to and {s the exclusive property of that wonderful organization, “The Boy Scouts of America? But we also found that another manufacturer had already named one of his models “Scout,” and, while there was no copyrighted trade mark or other protection, still there is an unwritten law among us automobile manufacturers to pro- tect each other in the prior right to names or other specific designations. So we discarded “Scout” and in- stead, called it just what it suggests on first sight, “Sport Roadster.” HAY—GRAIN CHIX FEEDS— SALT Casper Warehouse Co. 268 INDUSTRIAL AVE TEL. 27 STORAGE FORWARDING For the best results in raisin chickens use Victor Buttermil Starter. By SPARK PLUG Automotively, Casper has emerged from the depths, shaken off th lethargy caused by a long winter’ sleep, and has asserted itself strong. ly during the past two weeks. ‘in other words business conditions along Casper’s auw row have im proved wonderfully uf late, and the rit of gloom which has pervaded ry local salesroom for so many nths has given way to an atmos- phere of optimism and renewed vigor. Especially in the movement of used cars is the “reform” noticeable. Several dealers have during the past week staged sales of tradeins with almost unbelievable results. The used car problem although the tact is al- most unknown to the layman fs the real barrier which the dealer must overcome to reach anything like the pinnacle of success. For used cars represent “tied up" money and tied up money never did any one any particular good. If used cars are moving {t is a safe bet that sales on new cars will double the trade in deals. Cash sales and straight sales of new cars without a trade in are becoming more and more frequent in Casper. Indeed it would seem that after the- oretically lying dormant for three or four long montis this winter, the automobile has at last come into its own in Casper. Considerable of this puSlic interest in the buying of motor cars is at- tributed to the Spring show which an automobile sets out to do as the Romans da, and if tho Romans con- tinue to take chances we shall have the usual number of grade crossing catastrophes and other inexcusable accidents and fatalities incident to careless motoring. “The experienced driver has a unique role to play this spring if he earnestly desires to see condi- tions improved, He must recognize, first of all, that the newcomer rep- resents a hazard to him and that it is always to his advantage to keep away from-the beginner. The begin- ner does not know enough to keep out of the experienced driver's way. So there is only one ansnwer. “The experienced driver can do a real service to the country by giv- ing the newcomer every. possible ad- vantage even if it means sacrificing rights and being. inconvenienced. Safety is worth everything. “It is often the experienced driver who leads the newcomer astray by making conditions more. complicated than they should be. Everyone {s a beginner sometime, and the experi- enced motorist should bear in mind that the more assistance he given tothe newcomer the sooner the lat- ter will cease being a men: @ menace, “If the seasoned motorist will do everything in his power to keep*his driving above reproach it is a fore. gone conclusion that the new driv- ers will be impressed with their shortcomings and therefore make every attempt to male the grade. “A lot of beginners have come to think that it's quite a’! right to cut corners, speed in the city, pars standing street cars and fail to horn at crossings just because they see ° Paint Removal Is Necessary to a Satisfactory Paint Job Our process removes every trace of former painting DON’T FORGET MOTORS CLEANED BY STEAM Redenbo and McAteer 430 W..
