GHARLES MILLIKEN IS DESIRED BY HIS WIFE Left Family in Minneapolis.—Believed He Is Near Blackduck or Bemidji. Does anybody in this city or any subscriber of the Daily or Weekly Pioneer know Charles Milliken? Last April he left his home and family very suddenly and in rather unfavorable Ccircumstances. The family is at a loss to know why he left and also why he does not let them know where he is. There is serious sickness among the chilcren and Mrs. Milliken is also in very poor health. The Pioneer office received a letter from Mrs. Millikin, at Minne- neapolis, November 29, asking for assistance in locating her husband. She learned through a friend that he was going to take up some land near Bemidji or Blackduck and therefore wishes us to give publicity to these facts. Mr. Milliken is a man of about six feet in height, blue eyes and is slightly stoop shouldered. His hair is black mixed with gray and his moustache is gray. When last seen he weighed about 165 pounds. This seems to be the best descrip- tion we can secure of him as we are unable to get a photograph of the man. A great favor would be bestowed upon the wife and family of this man if his whereabouts can be neapolis. located. The Pioneer wonld appré- ciate’ any assistance in its efforts along these lines. If you have any clues write this office or inform the chief of police, or write Mrs. Milli. ken; 709 Sixth avenue, South, Min= Deceitful. “I admire patience an’ self control,” sald Uncle Eben, “but when I see a man dat kin keep on smilin’ after he done bruise his thumb with a hammer I can’t help bein® s’picious of his ca- pacity foh deceit.”—Washington Star. ’ Vagaries of the Plumb Line. One of the curious things that men of sclence have discovered in thefr in- numerable efforts to measure and map the earth with the least possible error 18 the fact that there are places where the direction. of a plumb line is net vertical. Irregularities of density in the crust of the globe may produce this phenomenon. A remarkable Instance has been found in the island of Porto Rico where the deviation from the vertical i8 mo great that in mapping the island the northern and southern coast lines, as shown on the older maps, had each to be moved inward half a mile.—New York Tribune.
