STABS DAUGHTER | WHO REFUSED 10 LIVE WITH iM — Father Enters Her Bedroom by Window and Inflicts Ten “Wounds. Miss Marguerite Sarah, nineteen, is in the Rahway Hospital in a critical condition from ten stab wounds in- ficted by her father, Isber Sarah, arty this morning, when he climbed through her bedroom window to force her to come to his home to live. Since her mother’s death sixteen years ago Sarah had made her home with Mrs. Mary Nahass, on the Woodbridge Road, at Iselin, N. J. Her father, who keeps a small store in West Hoboken, has repeatedly sought to have her live with him, and bas quarrelled with her over her refusal. About 8 o'clock this morning, the girl told the police, she was awakened by her father, who had climbed through the window of her bedroom on the first floor. He demanded, sho wud, that she dress and come with him at once, This she refused to do, and after angry exchanges, she says, he drew a knife and started for her threateningly. her father slashed at her, the girl threw up her arms, taking one of | the blows on her left wrist. The knife cut to the bone, severing several wrist tendons, The arm will be crippled if the girl recovers from other wounds, according to surgeons. Then he stabbed and slashed her three times on the head, twice in the neck and four times in the body. Mrs. Nahass entered the room while the man still had the knife in his hands. At her approach he released his hold and the girl fled to the yard outside, where she collapsed, Hamel , Kalt, a neighbor, rushed in With a club, but Sarah escaped through a window into woods nearby. i" Sarah was found about two miles b from the scene, still in the woods, by } Patrolman Leonard of the Wood- bridge Police force, and taken to the Woodbridge Jail. | piace EES FEAR PELLAGRA WILL COST 5,000 TO 10,000 LIVES. | Red Cross and Public’ Health Ser-| —_— vice United in Fight om Disease, | WASHINGTON, July 26.—A survey of famine conditions in the South was or- { dered to-day by the Red Cross following a conference with the United States Pun- | lic Health Service, As soon as the necils | of the pellagra ridden territory are de- termined, the two organtzations will rush food, medicine and doctors, Surgeon General Cumming of the.
