Alaskan _ Archipelago, consisting of The ! hundreds of timber-covered islands, with a coast line of more than 5000 miles and douens of deepwater harbors, is the enchanting part of the Alaska purchase—enchanting because of its magnificent scenery and because of the yei- iow stream of wealth which is pouring steadily into the hands of courageous men and Volumes might be written of this ut country, but in this limited space we can speas only of the mineral industry of Southeastern Alaska, and of that with brevity. BIG ALASKA MINES At Juneau and Deuglas City more than one thousand stamps, each weighing haif a ton, ar= dropping ninety ~times a minute, the year round, en gold-bearing ores. These properties are paying 6 per cent interest on a valuation of $15,000,000. In 1905 there will be an additional seven hundred stamps erected to crush high- rade ore. which will increase this enormous sum to more than $25, 000,000, THE GREAT TREADWELL. The best known mine is the Treadwell (traded for a suit of clothes, so rumor has it, in the rly days.) The Basin mines went crying for investors for several years, and it was not until 1897 that proper development work was started. In 1868, with a small mill, the mines paid $60.- | 400 over all expenses, and expenses were very heavy at the start. These mines have ore In 1 3Ight to supply double the number of stamps for & period of fifty years. SOME OTHER MINES. In 1900 another famous prospector took the field. With a picked crew he, landed at the head of Rodman Bay, on the north end of Bu- ranof lsland. To-day he is erecting & @ixty- stamp mill to prospect the property (after a sai- isfactory run of a year with a five-stamp mill.» It will be but a few years when Rodman Bay will rival Juneau in production of the yellow metal. Within fifty miles of Juneau the thundering stamps of the mills of Sum Dum, Snettishham and Shuk are ever pounding out the grains of wealth that for ages have laim hidden in the ice-carved rocks of the American Alps. Farther south twenty stamps are being erect- ed on Woronkofski land, opposite the mouth | of the Stikine River, on whose waters heavily laden month steamboats ply during the summer . yearly bringing from the interfor the tithes to civilisation in the form of acer gold, Still farther south, on Revillagigedo Island, thirty great fron pestles are ceaselessly clang- ing on the bright, gold-specked ores of the rich Sea Level mine. 'A number of small mille are in operation. hidden from view of steamboat tourists, snugly ensconced behind some tree- covered points or on the shores of an emeraid green_bay. Where the winds of ocean first strike in their landward journey over Prince of Wales Island, hugdreds of tons of azurite and malachite, rich orea of copper, form a saddle cloth of brightest green, four thousand feet above the salmon- iaden waters of Copper Bay. This property has had expended more than $80,000 in improve- ments, and the owners are now clearing ground for a smelter. Mines sending shiploads of ore to the smelters on Puget Sound, developient going on at a hundred points, most all within & stone's throw of salt water. This is the result of beach combing. $ | THE ARCHIPELAGO DEVELOPMENT COM- PANY. THE ARCHIPELAGO DEVELOPMENT coM- PANY. THE ARCHIPELAGO DEVELOPMENT COM- PANY. With a full understanding of the greatness of the undertaking, a few determined men met and discussed the most practicable methods of com- | pletely and thoroughly exploiting this country. ey recognized the futility of sending out the “grub-staked” prospector to idle his time in hunting and camp life. Before them was the success recorded by the Rodman Bay expedi- tion. SCIENTIFIC PROSPECTING A new and entirely original plan was decided on, as follows: To place in charge of the work a suitable, skiliful, experienced and euccessful mining engineer, familiar with the country and needed methods of prospecting, who would @i- rect and oversee all exploring work. Starting with the Island of Prince of Wales, according to its topography, this island has been section- ized, and each section will be under a pros- pector whose instructions are to OVer every part of the alictted territory and to report the managers, who will personally examin finds, assay samples and advise in regard to further exploitation. Sufficlent men will be put in the fleld to cover this territory without loss of time. In the sectionizing of the territory and pla: ng a number of selected men under charge an experienced manager, this company will nabled to thoroughly prospect the islands at a raction of the cost where individual effort is expended. Life s short, and were the individ- ual to attemp this work during his lfetime it would be but partly accomplished, and at the expenditure of ten times, yes, twenty times, the amcunt required under the plans proposed by the company Recognizing that n every mortal Is the em- bryo of the prospector, and that they need the opportunity to join in the search for earth treasures, as well knowing how few who are in settied pursuits are able to sever their co nections and expend their own muscle and time in the work, this company presents a plan whereby any person can join in the pursuit with a certainty of success that might not fovow his lone trail into the woods and hiils of Southeast ern Alaska. The success of such men as Stra ton of Cripple Creek. Clark and Daly of Mon- tana, Mackay and Fair of Nevada, Hayward, Hobart and Lane of California, Rhodes anl Belt of Africa, fi the courage of every ma that honestly wishes for better things and a place for himself and family above the grind of ordinary life. A SYNDICATE OF PROSPECTORS. Successful mines, when sold or operated, bring fabulous returns. This company is not asking you to put money into some abandoned mines whose Aztec history gilds the scheme. We ask you plainly to go prospecting with us. to enjoy the work, share in the rewards and stay at home while you are doing it. From the bi-monthly reports you will know of all that is heing done, you will hear of every find_and every difficulty met and surmounted. Your Investment will surely give you an interest in mines, not in a single mine. Your prospecting will lways be under the eye of an expert. Your mines, when found, will be brought to the markets of the world without the intervention of promoters, as the management of the com pany has connections that allow of thetr reach- ing the capital of any eity or country unaided, and, should our directors desire to operate for the company any of our mines, the company is strong enough to do it without Rorrowing money. mortgaging property or giving up large Interests to speculators. In a few brief words— this company is mctually a syndicate of pros- pectors, possessing advantages, as before enu- merated_that the single prospector can never hope to have. We find our mines, we operate or we sell them. and we need no outside heip. ®et from sales. is ours. A GREAT GOLD COUNTRY. This country is the richest mining territory under the sun, with ores of all kinds, ranging from immense bodies of low grade material to teflurides equaling those of the famous Inde- endence mine at Cripple Creek. The majority | of the oree are free milling, that is, the gold is recovered by the stamp mill and simple amal- gamation with mercury We have before us an immense, rich. unex- plored country with no opposition. The mining laws of the United States apply and titles are perfect. Never was such an offer made to the investor to participate in all profits; to own a preferred stock; tc enjoy dividends immediately upon sale of prospects: to become an Individual wner if %0 inclined. Every man In our employ is prospecting for the individual stoe hoider.
