Designed to house the four co-ordinate bodies of the rite, the building, 129 by 114 feet in size, is of Indiana limestone, with the central portion consisting of 33 huge stones, symbolic of the 33 degrees of Scottish Rite Masonry, \ Scoffish Rife Temple Dedication Exercises To Be Held Sunday Building to Be Opened To Members and Wives At Concert May 19 The new Scottish Rite Temple at 2800 Sixteenth street N.W. is ready for dedication Sunday afternoon. The new debt-free home of four co-ordinate bodies of the Scottish Rite s marked by a design different from anything in the neighborhood, and embodies in its construction some of the largest single stones ever used in a building here. The exterior, of Indiana limestone, contains in the central portion of the main facade only 33 stones, sym- bolic of the 33 degrees of Scottish Rite masonry. Each of these stones is 9 feet square and weighs ap- proximately six tons. Corner Stone Weighs Five Tons. The corner stone, which was laid by the Grand Lodge of Masons of the District on June 8 last year, weighs approximately five tons and is 8 feet long and 4'; feet high. The lintel over the main portal is said to be the largest face-area stone ever quarried, and when finished weighed approximately 36 tons. It has a face area of 260 square feet. LOS ANGELES, May 10—Louise Rainer, German-born movie actress, informed Judge Thomas C. Gould yesterday she wishes to have re-set for trial the divorce suit she filed two years ago against Clifford Odets, playwright. Miss Rainer disclosed that after she filed the suit, January 9, 1938, she and Odets resumed married life, but parted again a few weeks later. Her suit charges that Odets fre- quently provoked quarrels over trivial incidents and told her that there could be “only one career in a family.” ‘Bails Out’ of Window MADISON, Wis, May 10 (P).— Alvin Raasch, 46, who was an avia- tor in the World War, dreamed his airplane was forced down by the enemy. He awoke to find himself lying in his back yard. 'The bedroom window, 20 feet above, was open. Mr. Raasch, while still asleep, had “bailed out.” Hospital attendants said he had & broken back. After the dedication ceremonies, the temple will be used, beginning Monddy, continuing each evening to and including Friday, for con- ferring of degrees. The temple will be opened to members of the Scottish Rite and their wives on Sunday, May 19, when a concert will be given on the new organ, a present from W. R. Frank Hines, as a memorial to his father, who had been a member of the Rite for many years. During the week beginning May 20, the building will be open each night for inspection by all Masons | in the District and nearby Mary- | land. The local Scottish Rite moved to its new home from Third and E streets N.W. Farther south on Sixteenth street stands the House of the Temple, which is headquarters for the Southern Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite, of which John H. Cowles is MAYER & CO.
