(Compiled by the Associated Press.) 975 96.1 By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, May 10.—Heavy selling smashed down on foreign and domestic bonds for losses of 1 to around -7 points today in response to German invasion of the Low Courtries. Loans of the Lowland Countries were mostly untraded near the end of the session because bids were so low. With the final bell only half an hour off, Belgium 7s sold at 727z for a loss of 255 points. 4 Widest losers in actual trade in- cluded Italian, Canadian, Japanese, Queensland, Denmark, Uruguayan, German and Australian issues. A rush of offerings of United States Government bonds forced prices back well over a point in some cases. Off fractions to more than 2 points were Goodrich 41;s, Bethlehem Steel 315, Pacific Telephone 3%s of '66 “B,” International Mercantile Ma- rine 6s, American Telephone 3ks of '66 and Firestone Tire 3%as. NEW YORK, May 10.—House fur- nishings took the spotlight in retail trade this week with many stores reporting sharply’ improved demand for home supplies, Dun & Brad- street reported today. “Total retail volume was above a year ago in most cities, with a slightly higher average unit sale contributing to the improvement,” the credit agency said. “Buying for Mother's Day acted as a stimulant for trade. In de- partment stores, handbags, boxed pearls, cotton coat and gown en- sembles, slips, hosiery and handker- chiefs were favorite gift items. “For the most part, however, best- selling merchandise was confined to house furnishings lines. Particularly good results were reported by dealers in household refrigerators and other appliances. Summer furniture and rug promotions and ‘white sales’ were also said to be pulling well,” In contrast, however, ready-to- wear apparel was “sluggish even in cities reporting unusually satisfac- tory results for housewares,” the agency added. Because the corresponding week last year witnessed a brisk upturn in total sales, retail volume aver- aged only 3 to 6 per cent above the like 1939 period for the country as a whole, the agency reported. This was smaller than the increase over 1939 reported in the previous week. “Wholesale trade activity was sughtly better than even with a week ago,” the agency said. It added, nowever, that “where increases in volume were reported they were principally due to more numerous calls for near-term needs.” Wushmgton Produce 4-pound prints 29 1% ~pound prints 30: 89 score. t4-pound prints, 1-pound prints. score, tubs. pound prints pounds prints B score. tub: LIVESTOCK——Calves. 11: pigs PO 10; spring 120-140 pourids. 4.00 4.50-5.00: 150-1 pounds lambe. 130- di 0 pounds. 25043 00 . 3.00-5 50 a- v Yarm Agricultural Marketing Service.
