Taxes were up 11 per cent, taking $20,200,000, 16 cents out of every dollar cf venue, equal to $2.36 per share on the common stock. Fuel expendi- tures were up because of poor water konditions, which required more use of steam plants. : His letter also states that later this year a 50,000-kilowatt addition to one of the Potomac Electric Power plants in Washington will be 4n operation. Peoples Drug Votes Extra. NEW YORK, May 10—With the exception of a few war stocks, prices crumbled in today’s market as Wall Street attempted unsuccessfully to figure the effects on domestic in- dustry of German'’s surprising over- night smash at the neutral Low Countries of Europe. It was one of the speediest ses- sions since the outbreak of hostili- ties last September, with the ticker tape occasionally as much as five minutes late. Losses ranged from 1 to more than 5 points at the worst, although recoveries were in evidence here and there at the close. Transfers were in the neigh- borhood of 2,000,000 shares, despite slowdowns after midday. Steels, aircrafts, coppersand sug- ars bounded up at the start, while rubbers, rails, utilities, oils and a variety of peace-time specialties sank rapidly. The early climbers were subsequently thrown for de- clines, but several managed to revive at the last and finish with modest plus signs. The stock exchange had its largest attendance of members since last fall, with crowds swarming around the steel posts throughout. In the morning frequent bursts of cheering accompanied jumps of a point or so in favorites, Scattered groans were heard when quotations began to give ground. Pmminent stocks on the relapse were United States Rubber com- mon and preferred, Chrysler, Gen- eral Motors, Sears Roebuck, Wool- worth, Douglas Aircraft, American Airlines, United Aircraft, Westing house, Standard Oil of New Jersey, Western Union, Consolidated Edie son, Santa Fe, Great Northern, Southern Railway, Loft, Interna- tional Paper, Allied Chemical and Eastman Kodak. Resistance was exhibited by United States Steel, Bethlehem, Republic Steel, Boeing, Anaconda, Phelps Dodge, South Puerto Rico Sunr. Fajardo Suger and Baldwin Loco motive. Net of Bendix Aviation Corp.
