NEW YORK, May 7.—A light but persistent stream of selling in Brit- ish Empire bonds diverted atten- tion from other groups in today's market. Starting the final hour losses of from 1 to 6 points were frequent among the various obligations of Britain's far-flung dominions. The speech of Prime Minister Cham- berlain in Commons apparently did | nothing to lessen the pressure. | Among the more active losers were ‘ Canada 3s, Australia 4ls, New | South Wales 5s, and Sydney 4s. Other foreign loans selling lower in- cluded Denmark 6s and Norway 6s. Italian issues, recently sold at the year’s lowest prices, tended higher and gains appeared for several French and Japanese loans. Domestic corporates swung in a fractionally irregular range. Even low-priced rails derived little stim- ulus from Washington news 13 rail- way laber unions had spoken in favor of final congressional action on the omnibus transportation bill | Unchanged to higher were St. Paul 5s, Youngstown Sheet 4s, Mon- tana Power 334, Alleghany Stamped 55 of '50, Santa Fe 4s of '95 and Union Pacific 3'5s of "T1. Losers included Western Union 5s of '60, International Hydro Elecfric 6s, Rock Island General 4s, North ‘Western 43;s of '49 and Continental | Oil 23;s. United States Governments tend- ed higher on slim trade. | Antwerp 5s proved an exception to the generally lower foreign dollar | group, ending up 1 at 70.
