In the foreign division, with Ger- man claiming important victories over British naval units, losses rang- ing to more than 2 points showed in late trading in New South Wales 5s, Australia 4!%s, Canadian National Railway 4%s, Sydney 5!2s and Nor- way 4%s. Oslo City 42s of 1955 plunged 15 points on sale of a single bond and Norway Municipalities Bank 5s lost 27 at 23 when one bond changed hands. Improved among domestic issues were Baltimore & Ohio convertibles, Chicago & Northwestern 43;s, Erie 5s of "15, Pennsylvania general 4ls of '65, American Telephone 3!4s of ’66, Bethlehem Steel 3'¢s and Mon- tana Power 33s. United States Governments tend- ed a shade lower in light dealings. Aviation Firms Bare Terms on New Stock By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, May 6—Two avia- tion companies which announced previously plans for issuance of new | common stock for expansion dis- closed terms for stockholders’ sub- scriptions for the additional shares. Eastern Air Lines fixed a price of $32 a share for .its offering of not in excess of 110909 shares to present stockholders who may sub- scribe in the ratio of one-fourth share for each share now held. A Boeing Airplane Co. offering of 360979 new shares to present stockholders will go at $16 a share at the rate of one share for each two held. Meat Packers Announce Big Advertising Drive By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, May 6.—The Institute | of American Meat Packers announc- ed today that the healthful qualities | of meat and its place in a balanced diet would be featured in one of the most extensive advertising and | merchandising programs ever under- taken by an industry. George A. Schmidt, chairman of the board of the institute and presi- dent of Stahl-Meyer, Inc, of New York, commenting on the program, said, “Many people in America need more meat for a balanced diet. Dur- ing the last five years the consump- tion of meat and lard averaged only about 12 per cent greater than dur- ing a similar period 25 years ago. Nevertheless, our population has in- creased about 40 per cent as com- pared with a quarter century ago.” The advertising campaign, the institute said, would be Nation-wide and long range. The Navy today advertised for bids from private yards to be opened here Wednesday, June 5, on con- struction of three 1500-ton sub- marines. Bids will be received on the basis of one, two or three ships. These three and three other sub- marines to be assigned to Navy yards for construction will be pro- vided for in the 1941 naval supply bill now pending in Congress. Funds will become available July 1. Assignments of construction of three vessels to Navy yards will be made after receipt of the private yard bids and award of contracts. The six submarines will raise the total current submarine program to 20. Fourteen now are under con- struction, of which four, the Tam- bor, Tautog, Thresher and Triton, have been launched. Bida on machinery for all six ves- sels will be received May 15. Esti- mates place the cost of that type ship at around $6,000,000. The sub- marines, not yet named, are desig- nated by numbers from §8212 to 217. Dividend Increased By Brunswick-Balke By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, May 6.—Directors of Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. to- day declared a dividend of 50 cents a share on the outstanding common stock, payable June 15 to stock of record June 5. The company paid 25 cents a share three months ear- lier and a year ago. *R. P. Bensinger, president, pointed out that prospects for 1940 war= ranted the increased disbursement. Total payments for 1939 were $2.75 % | & share. W, ‘Woolworth Co. today reported April sales of $23,774,100, a decrease of 8.2 per cent from $25910,160 in April last year.
