THE*® EVENING BTAR, ¢ WASHINGTON, D. C., WEDNESDAY; APRIL 24, 1940. (Fellow Be in the Colored Comic Section Every Susday.) DOGGONE IT, SHE'S FOLLOWING ME... I'LL Winning Contract By THE FOUR ACES. (David_Bruce Burnstone. Merwin D. Mafer. Oswald Jacoby and Howard 8chenken, world's leading team of four, Inventors' of the system that has beaten every other system in existence.) Good Guessing Today’s hand was well bid by North and South, for in spite of the handi- cap of a partial score, they con- tracted for a small slam in hearts which offered a good chance for success. However, South had to do some good guessing to make his contract. - Neither side vulnerable. North and South 60 on score. 4Al06 VJ104 O AT #AQJIE3 N W+E By Frank Beck HEY...YOU LITTLE MUTT THAT CEMENT WAS JUST LAID.. Caritar's Rapio ProGrAM WEDNESDAY'S PROGRAM. It appeared as though West’s trump opening showed some club strength and South therefore decided on the lat- ter method. After dummy's club queen held, the ace was cashed and a diamond discarded. The ace and another diamond were then played. East won and retwrned a trump. South now trumped his remaining diamond in dummy, ruffed a club in his hand and then played his re- maining trumps. At this point South had to guess the location of the spade queen, for he could finesse in either direction. He had carefully counted his opponent’s distribution and now knew that East had orig- inally held five spades. Therefore the chances were overwhelmingly in favor of his holding the queen, South therefore played East for the spade queen and made his contract by correctly guessing two two-way finesses. 1‘350 Oulgksllv_g: Program 'Dau Mtyu", nria'yi’wh'm !ou From? i e = = I ?g Green Hornet Fred All Afé‘u’ News from Stockholm = = {News—Shield Revue = | Jewish Passover |News [This War Talk | Music by Faith A , variety 'R. BURGESS. Bobby Coon yawned and stretched lazily. Then he climbed out of bed and stuck his head out of the door- way in the hollow tree which was his home. The black shadows had already crept far out from the Pur- ple Hills, and looking up through the tree tops he saw a star winking at him. Bobby Coon winked back, and then slowly climbed out of the hollow tree. He had slept all day, for Bobby Coon often had rather sleep through the bright day and prowl around all night. The fact is, Bobby Coon is very apt to get into mischief. l Letter-Out for a fine silk material. ERODE ’leler-out for a wild animal. STITCHER | Letter-Out and they strike. So, because it is safer to go to forbidden places at night than in the bright light of the sun, whatever faults Bobby may have, he is always neat. Yes, sir, there is no one in the Green Forest who is neater than Bobby Coon. Bobby Coon looked quite the dandy as he started down the Lone Little Path to the Green Meadows and across to the Smiling Pool. There he found Little Joe Otter and Billy Mink just returned from a fishing with us.” Billy Mink didn't look at all pleased at Little Joe Otter’s invita- tion, for Billy is inclined to be sel- fish, and what he cannot eat him- self he hides away. But he said nothing, merely reaching out for the largest fish for himself. “Thank you,” said Bobby Coon, “I believe I will.” i A from dragging them up the bank, and the bits of dead grass and bark sticking to the fish they did not notice at all.
