FINA'NCIAL, THE SENDAY” STAR, WABHINGTON, D. C., OCTOBER 31 1937—PART “FOUR. FINANCIAL, COMMODITY PRICES RECEDE FURTHER MéGill Service Reports Index at " 79.1, Compared With Peak of 88 in April. Scecial Dispatch to The Star. AUBURNDALE, ward trend which has been so pro- nounced throughout the month, ac- cording to the McGill Commodity Service. The latest index figure stands at 79.1 as against 82.6 at the beginning of the year and a peak in April of 88.0. This means that in six months’ time the level of all commodities has dropped 10 per cent. Price weakness is again general, as out of 14 indi- vidual classifications 10 declined, 3 remained unchanged and only 1 group advanced. Industrial commodities recorded weakness, but the pace was somewhat slower than in recent weeks. A check- up shows that this group has recorded a decline since the April peak which measures nearly 9 per cent. Indus- trial activity is also under the aver- &ge of the previous week. Agricultural prices were down gharply. The movement was general, as the majority of items declined and only two products advanced, namely, rye and potatoes. The price decline in this important group since last April amounts to 24 per cent. Business (Continued From Page E-1.) tually all major groups falling to new lows for the year or longer.
