G—4 ACTIVITY MOUNTS ON METAL MARKETS Domestic Copper Is Unchanged, but London Rise Revives Talk of Advance. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, August 7.—Increased activity and a distinctly firmer under- tone featured non-ferrous metals last week, lead and zinc being especially prominent on the rise. Domestic copper was unchanged at 14 cents, but the rise abroad revived talk of a possible advance in the do- Mmestic base. Lead scored a gain 2 cent a pound, touching 6.50-.55 cents. De- mand was uniformly good, with all classes of consumers participating, and expectations were that the week's sales would approximate 15,000 tons, against 11,000 tons the previous week. The current market is $10 a ton above the year's low of 6 cents, but still $15 & ton under the high of the year of 7.75 cents made in early March. Zinc advanced '3 cent to 7.25 cents & pound. A tight statistical position continues, and while foreign imports eazed the situation slightly, further foreign shipments, it was thought, would be checked by the recent strength abroad. Tin advanced 2 cents a pound to 60'>-7 cents for spot, responding to the rise at London, which in turn was affected by reports that a drought in the Malayan Peninsula was inter- fering with production.
