Relief expenditures from public and private funds increased from about $44,000,000 in 1929 to nearly $841,- 000,000 in 1935, a report of the Labor Department’s Children’s Bureau dis- closed today. During the years noted, the Chil- dren’s Bureau was the only Federal agency receiving regular reports of relief expenditures from co-operating public and private agencies through- out the country. While these composite expenditures were going up, however, the private contributions were decreasing by 51 per cent between 1932 and 1933, by 47 per cent between 1933 and 1934 and by 21 per cent between 1934 and 1935. Five citizens’ military training camps for the 3d Corps area, including the District and nearby States, were scheduled to open today. The camps will continue through August 5. Infanry and Signal Corps enrollees WEDNESDAY, JULY 7, 1937. will be trained at Fort Meade, Md, which will handle a maximum of 3,125. An Infantry camp for colored youth, limited to an enroliment of 200, will be held at Fort Howard, Md. Fort Hoyle, Md, will house the Field Artillery group, while the Cav- alry enrollees will go to Fort Myer, Va., and the Coast Artillery to Fort Monroe. The Government pays all expenses, including transportation to and from the camps and all maintenance ex- penditures while there, . Eighty members of the Boys' Club of Washington left yesterday for a two-week vacation at Camp Reeder, on the Wicomico River. Charles Fyfe, club director, estimated 320 youths would spend their vacations there this Summer. ‘The camp 18 operated on a part-time WOODWARD bazis, each boy paying as much as possible toward his vacation.
