BY the Associated Press AKRON, Ohio, March 29 —Presi- dent P, W. Litchfleld of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. said today that “if crude rubber continues to sell at pres- ent levels, further increases in prices cannot be avoided.” “Consumption of crude rubber in the United States last year reached the unprecedented total of 375,000 long tons—22 per cent above that of 1929,” he said at the annual meeting of the company's stockholders. “This record consumption was due, | in part, to the demands of the motor- | ing public for larger tires, the growing | use of pneumatic tires on trucks and | busses and the new industrial uses | for rubber that are continually being developed. “Costs of production have increased s0 rapidly that * * * the ipdustry has been compelled to raise its selling price several times to maintain normal | profit margins.
