Va.,, March 25. —A jury acquitted Charles Baldwin, 41-year-old former Army captain, last night of the slaying of his wealthy mother, Mrs. Juliette Buffington Bald- | win Enslow. The jury deliberated approximately two hours, climaxing the nine-day trial. Spectators cheered the verdict. Judge H. Clay Warth, in his instruc- tions, told the jurors that unless they voluntary manslaughter; involuntary manslaughter and acquittal. Co-prosecutors Lucien Blankenship and George S. Wallace, said they be- lieved Baldwin killed his 63-year-old mother in her mansion to get a supply of narcotics. The widow was a daughter of Hunt- ington’s first mayor. She was killed in her bed room last October 17. Walter Brown, defense sattorney, blamed a burglar for the crime. HOUSING TREND CITED Federal Officials See Swing to 5 or 8 Room Houses. MEMPHIS, Tenn, March 25— Maj. Gen. E. L. Markham, chief of engineers, designated Maj. Daniel Noce yesterday to be district United States engineer at Memphis to suc- ceed Lieut. Col. Eugene Reybold, re- cently named chief of a new Arkansas division. Col. Reybold, director of a success- ful flood fight against unprecedented Mississippi River stages this year, will have charge of both the new division and the Memphis district until Maj. Noce reports for duty at Memphis July 10. Maj.
