Lane, 63, of 1629 Columbia road, a leader in church and welfare activities here, died Tuesday night in a Philadelphia hospital, where she had gone last Tuesday for treatment. Mrs. Lane, widow of Clar- ence B. Lane, Agriculture De- § partment scien- tist, was a vice president of the Washington City Presbyterial So- ciety for Mis- sions and had taken an active J part ia -llt the branches of its peane work. For the last three years she had been sec- retary of the Hospital Committee of the Washington Federation of Churches and was & member of the Woman’s Council of the Twentieth Century Club. For many years Mrs. Lane had been an active member of Fourth Presby- terian Church, with which she be- came identified shortly after coming to ‘Washington, soon after her marriage. A native of New Brunswick, N. J., Mrs, Lane, besides residing in ‘this city a number of years, also had lived part | of the time in Philadelphis. | She had traveled extensively in Eu- rope and the Holy Land and recently returned from a tour of the Orient, where she visited and made s study of mission stations. Information obtained and photographs taken on the trip have aided in the development of mis- sion work, on which she frequently had spoken. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Lowell L. Lene of Philadelphia, and Dr. C. Bronson Lane, Ames, Iowe, and two granddaughters. She also leaves two sisters who live in New Brunswick. Puneral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Harry Blake, 1728 Taylor street, close friend of Mrs. Lane. Rev. Dr. James H. Miers, pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian Church, will officiate, as- sisted by Rev. Dr. C. E. Hawthorne, president of the Washington Federa- tion of Churches, and Rev. Dr. W. L. LURAY, Va, March 25.—Elder Benjamin Frankim Purdham, 78, widely known Adventist minister, died suddenly at his home here yesteraay. Funeral errangements have not been completed pending arrival of rela- tives from a distance. | Mr. Purdham preached in Page County a number of years and prior to that in New Orleans. He was well known for the number of funerals he attended, keeping a record of them, the number of miles traveled to them and publishing the record every year. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Grace Miller of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Clyde Purdham of Washington.
