RS. ROOSEVELT spent yesterday in New York City and last evening was the guest of honor at dinner of the League of Mothers’ Clubs and the United Neighborhood Houses, iven in the Hotel Pennsylvania, and at which Mrs. Roose- welt was the principal speaker. She joined the President at Hyde Park and, following a custom of many years, accompanied him to the polls to vote. The Secretary of the Treasury and Mrs. Henry Morgenthau, §r., will return to Washington tomorrow from their home in Fish- Ekill, N. Y., where they went to remain over election day. The Acting Postmaster General and Mrs. W. W. Howes and their daughter, Miss Mary Senate Howes, will return to Washing- ton tomorrow from New York, where they will spend today at the Democratic headquarters at the Biltmore with the Postmaster General, Mr. James A. Farley. Also returning from New York City, where she went to cast her vote, will be the Secretary of Labor, Miss Frances Perkins. The German Ambassador, Herr Hans Luther, and his daugh- ters, will sail for Germany around November 25 to spend Christ- mas in Essen. The Ambassador will make only a brief visit in his native country, returning to America the first part of January, unaccompanied by his family. Signora Suvich, wife of the Italian Ambassador, will be the guest of honor at Juncheon Friday of La Margherita Society. The luncheon will be given at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and on the committee arranging the party are Signora Vecchiotti, wife of the Italian Consul General in New York; Marchessa della Chiuse, president of La Margherita Society; Princess Francisco Rospigliosi, Mrs. Henry J. Burchell, Mrs. T. Charles Farrelly, Mrs. Alfred Cortes, Mrs. Guido Pantaleoni and Mrs. Huntington Clark. The Irish Free State Minister and Mrs. MacWhite will go to New York today to attend the International Horse Show. They will return to the Capital the end of the week. ‘The Minister of Panama and Senora de Boyd will be hosts at 2 cocktail party this afternoon in their apartment at the Mayflower in celebration of the anniversary of their country. Their guests will include the Panama colony in Washington. The United States Minister to Canada and Mrs. Norman ‘Armour, who have been in the States on vacation, were in New ¥ork for a week and left there yesterday for Ottawa. Mrs. Peter Goelet Gerry, who was in Washington over Sunday, coming South for the wedding Saturday of Miss Suzanne Carroll Hill and Mr. Phillips Huntington Clarke, joined Senator Gerry in their Providence home yesterday. The commandant of the Naval War College, Rear Admiral Ed- ward R. Kalbfus, and Mrs. Kalbfus were hosts at luncheon yester- day at Newport, entertaining in honor of Capt. Wilbur R. Van Auken, U. S. N, and Mrs. Van Auken, who were their week end guests and returned to the Boston Navy Yard later in the day. The first secretary of the Ecuador Embassy and Senora de Mantilla-Ortega will be hosts at dinner tonight in honor of the first secretary of the Mexican Embassy and Senora de Fuentes, who will leave this week for Argentina, where Senora Fuentes will attend the Pan-American Conference. Gen. and Mrs. W. E. Gilmore are at the Carlton Hotel for several days. Gen.'and Mrs. Gilmore, former residents of Wash- ington, now reside in San Francisco, but make frequent visits to the Capital. d Maj. James M. Duke, Maj. Arthur P. Thayer and Maj. Frank Whittaker will go to New York City today for the International Horse Show. Mrs. Duke, Mrs. Thayer and Mrs. Whittaker will join their husbands there the latter part of the week. Maj. and Mrs. Duke had with them over the week end in their quarters at Fort Myer their niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Belasco, whose marriage took place October 20 in New York, who had been to Miami and Havana on their wedding trip and stopped off en route to New York, whence they will sail to- morrow for London. Residents Flock To Opening of “Ethan Frome” EGULAR “first nighters” and many others attended the open- ing performance here in the Capital of Max Gordon's production of Ethan Frome, a worthwhile dramatization of Edith Wharton's novel of life in the “deep” country of New England. A most depressing play, to be sure, but every one's attention was held until the curtain dropped at the end of the epilogue.
