A—I18 %% CITIZENS DEPLORE VOTELESS PLIGHT' Georgetown Group Urged by Miss Taggart to Continue Fight for Franchisa. On the eve of the national election the Georgetown Progressive Citizens’ Association last night officially “de- plored” the voteless plight of the resi- dents of the District by the unanimous adoption of a resolution presented by Etta L. Taggart. Miss Taggart re- minded the association of the situa- tion in the District and stated: “As voters prepare to go to the polls to- morrow and cast by ballot their se- lections for the highest offices in the country, we of Washington, with equally as much enthusiasm and de- sire for this privilege and duty, must 6it back and watch.” Long a staunch fighter for repre- sentation in the District, Miss Tag- gart urged the Georgetown group to keep in mind this “deplorable de- privation” and continue its fight un- til action is received. Curtis E. McGhee, president of the City Fire Fighters, urged adoption of a resolution favoring the three-platoon eight-hour shifts for firemen, McGhee said other associa- tions had questioned the possibility of additional taxes being imposed to meet the necessity of taking on ad- ditional men, but expressed belief that this would not be necessary. Following the reading of a report by People’s Counsel William A. Rob- erts, the association adopted a reso- lution expressing its regret at his resignation and commending him for his activity in the interests of citi- zens of the District. The association adopted a resolu- tion, introduced by Mrs. Jessie D. Sutton, sanctioning the health centers throughout the city. STEIWER. RESTS Senator’s Illness Blamed in Part on Campaign Program.
