With her appearance last night as & night club singer, the attractive brunette, who was educeted abroad and at Aiken, 8. C., got the jump by two weeks on Eve Symington, socially registered daughter of Representative James W. For singing six times nightly she will receive more than $1,000 a week, the highest-paid “blues singer” to ap- pear at the hotel. “Of ceurse, that isn’t all I do,” she explained, pulling down the corners of her mouth. “I entertain the customers. It's great, I give them a good time. Sip champagne with the out-of-towners from Syracuse and Chicago. Very proper, certainly. But they like to sit at my table. It's all in the game.” Mrs. Symington is a granddaughter of the late John Hay, President Theodore Roosevelt's Secretary of State, and is the wife of the socially prominent W. CLEVELAND, October 15.—The ex- plosion which hurled concrete blocks of Cleveland Stadium 40 feet in the air and injured four persons, one seriously, caused damage estimated yesterday by Assistant Fire Chief James E. Nimmo at $100,000. At least 200 persons, most of them employes of the Great Lakes Exposition which closed Monday night, were in the $3,000,000 municipally owned lake- front structure when the explosion oc- curred last night, blowing out 1,000 seats in the lower deck of the grand- stand and twisting immense steel gird- ers. Seriously injured was James A. Cos- griff, 43, wardrobe man for the expost= tion, who was in the storeroom where the blast occurred. Nimmo and As- sistant Safety Director John R. Flynn said it apparently was caused by an ac- cumulation of gas, touched off by a short circuit in defestive electric wir- ing.
