Srecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 28.—Sales and production increases in the dual | industry of plumbing and heating equipment were considerably greater than gains made by business in gen- eral and fully in line with the recovery evident in the building trades during | the first eight months of 1936, accord- ing to Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. “Moderate price advances were re- ported in several cities and were ex- pected to materialize shortly in many others. Collections from contractors and retail outlets were only fair, but most accounts were improving. The number of failures remained the same as for the corresponding period of 1935. “Significant for the plumbing and heating industry is the advance made by building in 1936. An index of the value of new residential construction compiled by the Federal Housing Ad- ministration, with the 1933 monthly average 100, records these figures: | June, 1934—82.3; June, 1935—248.6: June, 1936—7429. Pro- duction increases over 1935 averaged about 25 per cent last month. with most cities increases in-volume of out- put holding close to the average. Only one, the country’s principal automotive center, differed sharply from the gen- eral level of gains. reporting greater | advances ranging from 45 to 60 per cent. According to reeent reports from the Bureau of the Census, total net sales of 543 equipment manufacturers | in June were 33 per cent ahead of the same month in 1935. Producers’ sales of mechanical stokers for the first months of 1936 were 91 per cent | ahead of the same period last vear and 219 per cent above the 1934 com- | parative. Plumbing brass shipments for the half year ran 26 per cent higher than in 1835. For the first seven months of the current year pro= duction of vitreous clay bath room ac- cessories, a sample of 11 manufactur= ers showed. ran 258 per cent above the same period last year. | “Many manufacturers viewing the future course of their markets cone sider the present forward trend so strong that the usual Fall and Winter let-down will be barel\- perceptible.” NEW YORK BANK STOCKS NEW YORK.
