Postmaster Henry B. R. Briggs of Los Angeles died last night at Emer- gency Hospital of pneumonia con- tracted while on official buiness in Washington. He was 55 years old. With Mr. Briggs was his wife, who days ago, and a son, Reid Briggs, a secretary in the office of Senator McAdoo of California. Mr. Briggs arrived here a fortnight ago by airplane after attending the convention of the National Associ: tion of Postmasters at Cleveland. Overwork had weakened him, and a bad cold developed complications. A brother, Willianf H. Briggs, edi- tor of Harper's Magazine, is expected from Boston today after his arrival from Europe. Mr. Briggs, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., was a newspaper reporter, edi- tor and publisher for more than 40 years in many parts ofithe rountry. He was the author of a book, “Brass ‘Tacks,” published in 1932. He served in the Spanish-American War with the 33d Michigan Volun- teers.
