BROWN HONORED BY POLICE CHIEFS District Official Elected a Vice President at Kansas City Session. By the Associated Press. KANBAS CITY, September 25.—The Nation’s police officials yesterday urged broader deportation laws to help cope with the problem of alien crim- inals, In a resolution unanimously adopted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the existing deporta- tion laws was declared “unsatisfactory because it fails to provide for deporta- tion of large numbers of dangerous and habitual criminals who should be deported.” “Federal legislation is greatly needed to enlarge the classes of alien crim- inals subject to deportation,” the reso- lution asserted. Andrew J. Kavanaugh, director of safety at Miami, Fla., and retiring as- sociation president, said the Kerr de- portation bill embodied the broader powers desired. Today’'s resolution recommends a similar bill be presented &t the next session in January. In another resolution the police chiefs urged a Federal law to pro- hibit interstate transmission of rac- ing news to gambling establishments. Such establishments become “breed- ing spots for crime,” the resolution declared. . The officers sent a statement to President Roosevelt saying they would protest vigorously against any legis- lation designed to restrict the use of all forms of gas to Army and Navy forces. Leon V. Jenkins, director of police at Portland, Ore, was elected presi- dent to succeed Kavanaugh at the closing business session of the four- day convention today. Baltimore, Md., was awarded next year's convention. Vice presidents elected include George Reyer, New Qrleans; R. B. dJordan, Richmond, Va.; Ernest W. Brown, Washington, D. C.; Don S.
