By the Assoclated Press. NEW YORK September 14.—De- clines of minor fractions to more than a point were registered by a majority of active corporation bonds today. Losers included American Rolling Mill 4Ys, Chesapeake Corp. 5s, De- troit Edison 412s, Illinois Central 4Yss and Missouri Psclflc 5s. Issues able to hold unchanged or work a trifie higher included McKes- son & Robbins 5l4s at above 104, * Great Northern 4l;s at nearly 105 and Nickel Plate 4!2s at around 93%. United States Government bonds likewise were on the offside, with losses ranging from 1-32d of a point to 5-32ds. LUMBER DEMAND EXCEEDS OUTPUT New Orders Remain Far Ahead of 1935 Largely Because of Labor Day Holiday. The lumber industry during the week ended September 5, 1936, stood at 70 per cent of the 1929 weekly average of production and 67 per cent of 1929 shipments. Reported new orders slightly ex- ceeded output and were appreciably above the new business of the corre- sponding week of last year, but the v gain was largely because the 1935 week contained the Labor day holi- day. Repomd production during the week ended September 5 of 8 per cent fewer mills was 4 per cent be- Jow revised production figures of the preceding week; shipments were 8 per cent below and new orders 4 per cent below that week, according to reports to the National Lumber Man- ufacturers’ Association from regional associations covering the operations of important hardwood and softwood . mills. Reported new business during the week ended September 5 was 1 per cent above production; shipments were 7 per cent below output. Re- ported new busines of the previous week, ended August 29, was 1 per cent above production; shipments were 4 per cent below output. Pro- duction in the week ended September 5 was shown by reporting softwood mills 18 per cent above the corre- sponding holiday week of 1933; ship- ments were 24 per cent above and orders 47 per cent above shipments » and orders of last year's short week. NEW YORK, September 14.—The United States Rubber Co. will prob- ably get most if not all of the tire manufacturing business of Atlas Sup- ply Co. formerly handled by the B, F. QGoodrich Co., it was learned today in well informed quarters, Atlas Supply, owned by a group of ofl companies which have service sta- tions, including Standard Oil of New Jersey, formerly distributed its manu- facturing business between United States Rubber and Goodrich. James D. Tew, president of Good- rich, announced in Akron Saturday the contract had been canceled, but assigned no reason. While company officials declined to amplify his brief statement, it was learned from other sources cancellation was at the behest of Goodrich and was believed to have been based on desire of officials t» avoid possible violations of the lav under the Robinson-Patman f trade practices act. The contract hac one more year to run. United States Rubber Co. has beer manufacturing Atlas tires without : contract, such as existed between At las and Goodrich, and while official declined to state whether they ex- pected to assume the entire Atla output, it was pointed out in othe: circles that such a course would b a most logical development.
